People interested in learning how to play canasta are invited to sign up for a beginner class that will be offered beginning June and continuing through the end of August. Taught by a volunteer instructor, classes will be held at the library on Monday evenings from 6:30 -8:00 PM. Please note that the class will not be held on July 3 and July 10.
Canasta was developed in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1939 and became extremely popular in some parts of South America before being introduced to the United States in 1948. It is played with two decks of cards and is the only member of the rummy family of card games that is played with a partner.
