Effective January 1, 2020, circulation desk staff will no longer make courtesy phone calls to inform library patrons of the arrival of holds unless that is the method that has been specifically chosen by a library patron as his or her preferred way to receive notifications. All patrons who have provided the library staff with a current email address will continue to receive notifications by email.

The library will screen Fencer (2015) at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Fleeing from the Russian secret police, a young Estonian fencer is forced to return to his homeland, where he becomes a physical education teacher at a local school. The past, however, catches up and puts him in front of a difficult choice. In Estonian, Russian, and Armenian with English subtitles. Nominated for one Golden globe. Another six wins and three nominations for other awards. The movie is partially based on the real life story of fencer Endel Lelis (1925-1993.) Directed by Klaus Haro. Starring Mart Avandi, Ursula Ratasepp, and Hendrick Toompere Sr. Not rated.

Funding for the film program has been made possible by the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Additional funding is also provided by the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
