The library will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The children’s room will be closed Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 for the installation of new signs and decorative artwork. Programs for children and teens that have been scheduled for those dates will not be cancelled. Children below high school age who are not accompanied by a responsible adult cannot be accommodated in the adult services department during the two days. Parents should make other arrangements for children who are accustomed to coming to the library during after school hours.

Summer International Film

The Summer International Film Festival continues at the Springfield Free Public Library on Thursday, July 19th.

In The Women’s Balcony, a bar mitzvah mishap causes a major rift in a devout Orthodox community in Jerusalem. The original Israeli film title was Ismach Hatani. Directed by Emil Ben-Shimon. Starring Evelin Hagoel, Igal Naor and Orna Banai. In Hebrew with English subtitles. 96 minutes. Not rated.

Upcoming selections include Loving Vincent (2017),The Midwife (2017, French with English subtitles), and Loveless (2017, Russian with English subtitles.)

Funding for the film program has been made possible by the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Additional funding is also provided by the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
