Spaghetti Westerns
Wednesday, April 10, 2019, 07:00pm

The Springfield Free Public Library will present a program about “Spaghetti Westerns” at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 10, in the Donald B. Palmer Museum.

Anthony Lusardi, a journalist and film enthusiast, will provide a history of a genre that may be largely unfamiliar to younger movie viewers. Referred to as “spaghetti westerns” because of their origin in Italy, these movies appropriated the themes, irony and pathos of American Westerns but were filmed on location mostly in Spain and Italy.

Between 1960 and 1978, more than 600 spaghetti westerns were made, the most notable of which were those directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood. Lusardi’s presentation will include slides, movie trailers and selected film clips.
