The library will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The children’s room will be closed Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 for the installation of new signs and decorative artwork. Programs for children and teens that have been scheduled for those dates will not be cancelled. Children below high school age who are not accompanied by a responsible adult cannot be accommodated in the adult services department during the two days. Parents should make other arrangements for children who are accustomed to coming to the library during after school hours.

“Yankee Batboy” Author Anthony Florio to Speak at SFPL

Anthony Florio, author of the newly published memoir, Yankee Batboy: From Little Italy to Yankee Stadium, will make an appearance at the Springfield Free Public Library at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19.

Reflecting on the material in his book, Florio will share stories about his childhood in Little Italy in New York City and the amazing experiences he had in his job as a batboy for the New York Yankees during the 1962, 1963 and 1964 baseball seasons which also included trips to three World Series. Stories about this special time in Florio’s life will include reminiscences about his encounters with Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Joe Pepitone. Copies of the book will be available for sale after the program.
