The library will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The children’s room will be closed Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 for the installation of new signs and decorative artwork. Programs for children and teens that have been scheduled for those dates will not be cancelled. Children below high school age who are not accompanied by a responsible adult cannot be accommodated in the adult services department during the two days. Parents should make other arrangements for children who are accustomed to coming to the library during after school hours.

Summer International Film: Phoenix

The Summer International Film Festival continues at the Springfield Free Public Library on Thursday, August 8th.

The library will screen Phoenix (2014) at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. This film received 30 nominations and won 17 awards. A disfigured Holocaust survivor undergoes a series of facial reconstruction surgeries and sets out to determine if the man she loved betrayed her trust. Directed by Christian Petzold. Starring Nina Hoss, Ronald Zehrfeld and Nina Kunzendorf. In German with English subtitles. 98 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Funding for the film program has been made possible by the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Additional funding is also provided by the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
