As part of an ongoing salute to 1969, the library will present “Back to Bacharach,” a musical tribute to Burt Bacharach, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, to be performed by the members of the Christine Spero Group.
Considered one of the most important composers of 20th century popular music, Bacharach composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, mostly in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. A six-time Grammy winner and three-time Academy Award winner, Bacharach’s songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists. In 2015, Rolling Stone ranked Bacharach and David at number 32 on their list of the 100 greatest songwriters of all time.
Singer and keyboardist Christine Spero and percussionist and saxophonist Elliot Spero (a brother-in-law and sister-in-law duo) together cover a wide variety of musical genres and styles. Audience members may remember them from a Laura Nyro tribute show they performed at the library in 2017.
This program is free and open to all members of the general public. The Springfield Free Public Library opened at its current location of 66 Mountain Avenue in 1969 and the library has scheduled programs throughout the year that highlight the important events of fifty years ago.
