Cheers of Joy and Lingering Sorrow: Union County & NJ Monuments to World War I
Monday, June 24, 2024, 07:00pm

The Donald B. Palmer Museum of the Springfield Free Public Library will host an exhibit of photographs, "Legacy of Remembrance," curated by historian Erik Burro, during the months of June and July. The photos feature memorials to WWI found in Union County and elsewhere in New Jersey.

In conjunction with the exhibit, at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 24, Burro will present a lecture that will offer additional information regarding the variety of WWI memorials found within Union County, along with several exceptional monuments found elsewhere in New Jersey.

Burro will also include in his presentation a discussion of the fact that it took more than 100 years for a national WWI memorial to be built in our nation's capital. He will focus on the memorial's design and reveal how its sculptor created all of its sculptural elements right here in New Jersey.

This program is free and open to all members of the general public. The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue.
