Cheers of Joy, Lingering Sorrow: Union County Remembers Armistice/Veterans Day
Wednesday, November 08, 2023, 07:00pm

The Springfield Free Public Library is proud to host the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs for a presentation, CHEERS OF JOY, LINGER SORROW: UNION COUNTY REMEMBERS ARMISTICE/VETERANS DAY at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8.

In this presentation, Public History Advocate Erik Burro will highlight the variety of Union County World War I memorials as well as showcase several exceptional monuments found elsewhere in New Jersey.

As part of his talk, Mr. Burro will also discuss the fact that a World War I memorial will finally be unveiled in the nation's capital next year on November 11, more than a century after the war ended. Mr. Burro will discuss the design and also reveal how its sculptor created all of its sculptural elements right here in New Jersey.

This program is free and open to all members of the general public. The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue.
